Privacy policy

This policy tells you what personal information EcoSecurity Systems Inc. collects, why we collect it, who gets it, and how you can see, correct or delete it. We follow the Personal Information Protection Act of British Columbia (PIPA). Last updated: October 22, 2026.

Who we are

EcoSecurity Systems Inc. installs, monitors and services security systems. Our office is at 157 Trunk Rd, Duncan, BC V9L 3T8.

Our privacy officer is one of the owners of EcoSecurity. Send privacy questions to cmacfarlane@ecosecurity.ca, or call (250) 597 2628.

What we collect

When you send a form on this website: your name, your phone number, your email address if you give it, the type of property, your message, the page you sent the form from, and the date and time.

When you call or email us: your name, your contact details and what you tell us about your property.

When you become a customer: your address, the people on your call list and their phone numbers, your verbal password, your billing details and the details of your system.

When your system is monitored: alarm, arm and disarm events, and trouble signals such as a low battery. The monitoring station keeps a record of each alarm and each call.

When you visit this website: our host, Cloudflare, processes technical data such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver the website and protect it from attacks. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not follow you to other websites.

Cookies: this website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Cloudflare can set a short lived security cookie that helps it block bots. If we ever add tracking cookies, we will ask for your consent first and update this policy.

Why we collect it

We use your information to answer your request, visit your property and give you a quote. We also use it to install, monitor and service your system, to call you and your contacts when there is an alarm, to send invoices, and to meet our legal duties.

We only collect what we need for these purposes.

Who gets it, and where it is stored

Our monitoring station partner. A ULC listed central station gets your account details and call list, so its operators can respond to your alarms.

Emergency services. When an alarm needs a response, the operator gives police, fire or ambulance the information they need.

Formspree handles the forms on this website and emails each request to us. Formspree keeps the requests on Amazon Web Services servers in the United States.

Cloudflare hosts this website and counts visits. Cloudflare is based in the United States and runs servers around the world.

Microsoft 365 runs our email. Microsoft stores our email data in Canada.

Other service providers. We also use software for accounting, contracts and scheduling. These providers keep some information for us.

Some of these providers store information outside Canada, for example in the United States. Information stored outside Canada can be subject to the laws of that country.

We do not sell your personal information.

How long we keep it

Website requests that do not lead to work: we keep them for 2 years.

Customer and monitoring records: while you are a customer, then for 7 years after the account closes, for tax records.

When we no longer need information, we delete it or destroy it securely.

How we protect it

Only the people who need your information for their work can see it. We use accounts that are protected by passwords, and the security tools of our service providers.

Never put alarm codes or passwords in a website form or an email.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we have about you, and ask us to correct it.

You can ask us to delete information that we no longer need. We keep information that the law or an active monitoring account needs, and we tell you why.

You can withdraw your consent at any time. If you withdraw consent for information that monitoring needs, such as your call list, we cannot monitor your system.

Send your request to cmacfarlane@ecosecurity.ca, or call (250) 597 2628. We answer within the time that BC law sets.

How to make a complaint

Contact our privacy officer first, at cmacfarlane@ecosecurity.ca. If you are not happy with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our practices change. The date at the top of this page shows the last update.
